Black Sabbath Former Singer Tony Martin Releases New Solo Single
After heading their own ways with Black Sabbath, the band’s former singer Tony Martin has been continuing his career, as he releases a new solo single, titled As The World Burns.
Best known for his tenure with Black Sabbath in the past, Tony Martin had first joined the widely regarded metal band as its lead singer to replace Glenn Hughes. As he became the band’s second-longest-serving vocalist after Ozzy Osbourne, Martin performed with Black Sabbath initially from 1987 to 1991 and again from 1993 to 1997. And after his career with the band ended, the talented musician has also never stopped involving many other projects, such as M3, Misha Calvin, The Cage, Giuntini Project, and Phenomena.
And throughout his career with Black Sabbath, Tony Martin performed in six albums of the band, which are The Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, Tyr, Cross Purposes, Cross Purposes Live, and Forbidden. And after their last album together, Martin’s tenure with Black Sabbath had ended when the band’s co-founder Tony Iommi reunited with Black Sabbath’s original members.
And after his departure, Tony Martin and Tony Iommi had some insipidity, when Iommi criticized him as unprofessional, during an interview back in 2012. But later, things got settled between them, as the former singer of Black Sabbath announced that they may work together again through his social media, back in 2016. Shortly after, also the co-founder of the regarded band Tony Iommi also announced his intention to work with Tony Martin again, stating, “We’ve held back on the reissues because of the current Sabbath thing with Ozzy, but they will certainly be happening. I’d like to do a couple of new tracks for those releases (Headless Cross and Tyr) with Tony Martin. I’ll also be looking at working on Cross Purposes and Forbidden.”
On the other side, Tony Martin also worked with a variety of projects, after he left Black Sabbath. And ultimately, the talented musician has been working on his upcoming solo album, titled Thorns, for a while, as he also released an official lyric video for one of the songs from that album, As The World Burns.
The former singer of Black Sabbath, Tony Martin also made a statement earlier for his new album, saying:
“This new album is probably the most ‘Tony Martin’ a Tony Martin album has ever sounded!! It’s got several surprises that will lift people’s eyebrows, I am sure. Largely but not entirely based around the riffs of Scott McClellan, new to the world scene, he has proved to be a worthy partner in crime for this release… I was able to make some great songs out of the riffs he was coming up with, which is very similar in the writing sense to that which I experienced with Tony Iommi. Different sound and style, but the riffing talent that someone like Scott has is very cool. It is diverse, melodic, powerful, thought-provoking and of a standard high as ever I have worked on. I believe there are stories still to tell, songs still to be sung, and with this album, I feel it’s achieved everything I could have wished for.
Grateful to the people who have given their extra talents in appearances on this recording. It’s been a challenge in COVID lockdown, getting everyone’s performances from across the world, but in another way, it was a perfect opportunity to get it done.”
Throughout his career, the former singer of Black Sabbath, Tony Martin released 2 solo albums so far. And his upcoming third album, Thorns, will be landing on January 14, 2022. The distribution for the upcoming solo album of Tony Martin will be handled in Australia, Asia, Europe, and Japan by Battlegod Productions, as Dark Star Records will handle distribution in all of North and South America, including both physical and streaming.
