While The band was making the Follow the Leader track, Jonathan Devis got sober in 1998. That’s why The band hired Brendan O’Brien to produce the album to be more work-oriented in the studio. Because Brendan O’Brian is known for restricting partying while working. Because of their restricting contract, the Korn band needed to stop partying.
Album cover contest
Picking an album cover is as important as making good tracks for the album. Because album cover directly affects album sales. That’s why Korn arranged a contest for the album cover. The contest winner is Alfredo Carlos. You can see other top four selections from MTV’s cover art contest.
The iconic Apollo theater performance
Korn played all of the songs from Issues the night before the album release at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York. With this performance, Korn made history. Because this Theater had been known for performances by African American musicians. They become the first rock band accomplishes to play their music in Apollo Theater since Buddy Holly.
South Park
We heard the ‘Issues’ album’s first single, “Falling Away From Me,” debut in an episode of South Park. The episode is titled Korn’s Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery.” This cut was a unique moment for South Park fans.
Email chain
Although the attorney’s wishes, Korn uploaded the first single of the album “Falling Away From Me” as a free MP3 file on the MTV website. After the song was released, they had started a chain of mail for people who shared the track.
The email includes, “We’re so psyched about it that we wanted to give all you guys, the TRUE Korn fans — a gift from us,” the band wrote. “Please listen to the single. If you like it, send this email it to at least 10 friends and music fans and ask each of them to do the same. It’s a fuckin’ musical chain letter! People turning people on to great music.”
In the addition email chain, Korn and MTV ran another campaign. The campaign slogan is: if you sign the virtual guestbook, you can help one child. People who contributed to this virtual guest book helped thousands of children. Because with virtual guestbooks, people can contribute donations to child organizations. With this campaign, the Korn band donated over $250,000.
Issues album got Platinum
Issues album was certified 3x platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. This was a quick success for the Korn band. Because they get certification over a month release. This success is beyond the Korn band’s expectations.
Static end of the song
While listening to the first three albums, we always find a hidden track at the end. However, Issues is different from the other albums.
