Guns N’ Roses Former Guitarist Ron Thal Reflects Thoughts on Kurt Cobain
During a recent appearance in an interview, Guns N’ Roses former guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal talked about the legendary lead singer of Nirvana, reflecting on his thoughts as he reveals what he loved about Kurt Cobain.
Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal has recently appeared in an interview on YouTube, where he revealed one of his influencers was the legendary singer of Nirvana, as he also reflected on how Kurt Cobain affected him with his playing and songwriting style.
“His guitar was the way to dig in and dirty it up and just deliver it,” starts Guns N’ Roses former guitarist.
“And his voice. But what I loved about Cobain was really the writing — the songwriting. I’m assuming it was intuitive. But he did the same kind of shit that [composer Johann Sebastian] Bach would do, as far as mathematically correct and accurate and phrasing things to land on the changing foundation beneath it so that it is always in perfect harmony. Whether it was studied or he just knew, he just heard it, but he did that — absolutely. I could spend the next hour just breaking it down and all the music theory behind it… If you were gonna take the math behind the music of why things work, his stuff all added up.”
The lead singer and guitarist of legendary rock band Nirvana, Kurt Cobain was found dead at his home in Seattle, Washington on April 8, 1994, after three days passed of his death on April 5. It was also known that the talented musician had been struggling with his heroin addiction, which he actually started using to ease the chronic stomach pain he had suffered from his entire life.
Formed in 1987 by a good two friends in high school, the lead singer and guitarist Кurt Соbаіn аnd bаѕѕіѕt Кrіѕt Nоvоѕеlіс expanded their team by recruiting Dave Grohl in 1990 after they had played alongside several drummers for a while. So together, their journey went on to become one of the most popular bands in the nineties and gained such huge regard along with love for their music.
But even though, one of the best-regarded bands of all time, Nirvana couldn’t make its journey last long, it had still managed to achieve so many things in that such a short time, including being inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame on April 10, 2014. It was actually five days later of their legendary singer’s 20th anniversary of his passing, as well.
And the former guitarist of Guns N’ Roses, Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal had joined the band in 2006 as one of two lead guitarists in the regarded band. Until his departure in 2014, the talented guitarist could only perform on the sixth studio album of Guns N’ Roses, Chinese Democracy, which actually had taken 13 years for the regarded band’s members to write and complete it before Thal came.
Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal is currently the guitarist for the supergroup Sons of Apollo along with also being guitarist and vocalist for the band Asia, which he joined in 2019. Sons of Apollo also features keyboardist Derek Sherinian, bassist Billy Sheehan, and drummer Mike Portnoy, alongside Ron Thal. Throughout his career, the talented guitarist also released 8 solo studio albums as well.
