Kurt Cobain’s Fender Guitar Is Coming Back For Nevermind’s 30th Anniversary

Smells Like Teen Spirit

A lot of musicians have their signature pieces of equipment.  As they proceed through their career, they become more and more connected with their equipment. After a certain point, everyone looking at those instruments think about the particular musician. They’ve even changed the music world with those pieces of equipment. Kurt Cobain is also one of those musicians. Kurt Cobain’s Guitar Jag-Stang signature model (which he designed with Fender) is a very iconic one with him.

Cobain played plenty of Fender guitars throughout his career. But some of them were more iconic for both us and the musician. And those iconic guitars were his Fender Jaguar and Mustang models. They are probably that popular because Kurt Cobain used them on the Nevermind tour but more importantly, in the most popular Nirvana song, Smells Like Teen Spirit music video (which passed 1 billion listens on Spotify a couple of days ago). As we’ve said in the beginning, those guitars are custom designs, made by Cobain in 1993 with the help of  Fender Custom Shop. He designed his guitars to have his favorite elements in them.

Fender’s Larry Brooks talked about those guitars of Cobain and said those words:

Kurt always played both guitars. He took photographs of each, cut them in half, and put them together to see what they’d look like. It was his concept, and we detailed and contoured it to give him balance and feel.”

“He was really easy to work with. I had the chance to sit and talk with him, then we built him a prototype. He played it a while and then wrote some suggestions on the guitar and sent it back to us. The second, time we got it right.”

And now, for the 30th anniversary of Nirvana’s Nevermind album, we are getting those guitars again. They are coming back in October 2021 to commemorate Neverimind’s 30th anniversary. Jag-Stang guitar is coming with the same features that Kurt Cobain created for the ideal instrument for him. Here is a list of features that possible buyers can expect:

  • Alder body
  • Maple neck with 7.25” radius rosewood fingerboard
  • 24” scale length
  • Vintage-style single-coil and custom humbucking pickups
