Metallica Shares New Song and Video for “If Darkness Had a Son”

Metallica shares a new song and video for “If Darkness Had a Son” from the upcoming 72 Seasons album. “If Darkness Had a Son” is a seven-minute song with a music video made by director Tim Saccenti. We know him from the videos for recent hits “Screaming Suicide” and “Lux Æterna.”
From the first notes of “If Darkness Had a Son,” it’s clear that Metallica is in top form. The song kicks off with a blistering riff that wouldn’t sound out of place on their classic album “Master of Puppets.” However, as the song progresses, we hear the band experimenting with new sounds and textures. There are moments of quiet introspection, as well as explosive bursts of energy.
The production of “If Darkness Had a Son” is top-notch, with every instrument and vocal track perfectly balanced in the mix. James Hetfield’s vocals are as powerful as ever, while Kirk Hammett’s guitar solos are both intricate and emotional. Lars Ulrich’s drumming is rock-solid, providing a powerful foundation for the rest of the band.
Metallica‘s first full-length album in six years, following “Hardwired…To Self-Destruct.” Greg Fidelman, James Hetfield, and Lars Ulrich produced 72 Seasons. It will be available on April 14th, 2023. Metallica will also kick off on a 2023-2024 tour in support of the album later that month.
Metallica’s frontman James Hetfield also shared a statement for the upcoming album:
“The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry.”
Metallica has been a defining force in the world of heavy metal for over three decades. Their influence can be felt in countless bands that have followed in their footsteps. They’ve sold millions of records, won multiple Grammy Awards, and headlined some of the biggest festivals in the world.
However, Metallica‘s legacy is not just about commercial success. They’ve also been a band that’s unafraid to take risks and challenge their audience. From their early thrash metal days to their more experimental albums like “Load” and “St. Anger,” Metallica has always been a band that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in heavy music.
“If Darkness Had a Son” is a fantastic addition to Metallica’s already impressive catalog. It showcases the band’s continued vitality and relevance, even after all these years. With its mix of thrashy riffs, emotional vocals, and thought-provoking lyrics, this song is sure to be a hit with both longtime fans and newcomers alike. Metallica – “If Darkness Had a Son” lyrics

Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
The beast still shouts for what it’s yearning
He stokes the fire, desire burning
The never-ending quenchless craving
The unforgiving misbehaving
If darkness had a son, here I am
Temptation is his father
If darkness had a son, here I am
I bathe in holy water
Temptation, leave me be
Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
So paint your eyes as black as sorrow
Hide yourself behind tomorrow
The nightmares search for infiltration
In domination, captivation
If darkness had a son, here I am
Temptation is his father
If darkness had a son, here I am
I bathe in holy water
Temptation, leave me be
Return again to where it’s darkest
Dragging home this heathen harvest
And all the children subjugated
Manipulated, propagated
If darkness had a son, here I am
Temptation is his father
If darkness had a son, here I am
I bathe in holy water
If darkness had a son
Here I am
If darkness had a son
Here I am
If darkness had a son
Here I am
I bathe in holy water
Temptation, leave me be
