Metallica’s guitarist Kirk Hammett announces his solo album release date
Metallica‘s famous guitarist Kirk Hammett will release his first solo album. His solo ‘Portals‘ is available with Blackened Recordings on April 23rd 2022.
Kirk Hammett, the vinyl EP is expected to include four tracks with instrumentals, “Maiden and the Monster” album. As well as The Jinn on side A with backing tracks from High Plains Drifter and The Incantation Both of which were written by Edwin Outwater. He also has collaborated previously on Metallica‘s S&M2 performances and albums.
Hammett “people,” talking about the album, “Portals is a collection of gateways to many spiritual and musical destinations. It was recorded in various locations between Los Angeles to Paris to Oahu, ‘Portals’ both the result of musical as well as spiritual journeys. A call to the inner realms accessible only through musical music as well as the psychic energy that it is fueling. This music was created with what I describe as an Audio-Cinematic approach. They’re soundtracks to the movies in your mind.”
Outwater is also a keyboardist on the album as well as the directing of other members from The LA Philharmonic. The guest musicians on the EP are Queens Of The Stone Age drummer Jon Theodore, Paul McCartney’s touring drummer Abraham Laboriel, and Metallica producers Greg Fidelman and Bob Rock.
He also added:
“Initially, before I even had the idea for a solo EP, I was inspired by the need to create some sort of soundtrack music to accompany The Kirk Hammett Collection for the first ‘It’s Alive’ exhibition at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, 2017. I wanted to conceive music to play on a loop in the background as people walked through the exhibit. I sat down one night with a progression, and before I knew it, all the parts were there for ‘Maiden And The Monster’. The initial concept for ‘Portals’ started with that one song. Following that, I realized I could create different soundtrack moments. These songs are what I call ‘audio cinematic’; I’m creating sounds and pieces of music for the movies playing in my head. Hopefully they’ll create movies in other people’s heads in a similar fashion.”
Kirk Hammett’s new album will be called Portals, and will act as a mixture of rock music and soundtrack — which makes sense, given what a film buff the dude is. The album will drop April 23rd.
Some other names that are well-known among the Portals players are drummers Jon Theodore (Kirk’s fellow Wedding Band member) and Abraham Laboriel, Greg Fidelman on bass and the Emmy award-winning composer Blake Neely, and Bob Rock.
Kirk Hammett’s upcoming ‘Portals‘ will be accessible to purchase via the Met Store and the Probity UK Shop on Saturday, April 23rd, 2022.
