Rihanna’s live guitarist reveals she wants to make a heavy metal album
Rihanna‘s live guitarist Nuno Bettencourt reveals a discredited long-running speculation that the singer was planning a heavy metal album.
Recent reports claimed that the global superstar was interested in creating a heavy metal album until her label put a stop to it. However, the truth is that those reports are completely false. The news was discredited by none other than Nuno Bettencourt, the guitarist for Extreme and Rihanna’s collaborator on her Anti album.
According to Rock Fandom, Nuna Bettencourt revealed that the story about Rihanna’s metal album was nothing more than a rumor. He stated, “That’s a complete lie. That’s fabricated. It’s so incorrect. I promise you in the life of my children that those words never came out of my mouth. It’s a good story, which is why it got written I guess, but it’s absolutely not true. What happened was that they got in touch with me because they said they wanted a guitar player, and wanted to rock out the show, and they had seen some of my stuff online. I said, Why would you want me, there’s no guitar on a lot of the songs? And I was told, that they just wanted me to be me, and do it on Umbrella and everything, with heavy chords and riffs.
I was like, Wow, that sounds fucking exciting for a guy like me who loves all genres of music. That’s probably how that story started. But she didn’t want to do a heavy metal record.”
According to Nuno Bettencourt, Rihanna was listening to a lot of Led Zeppelin and Paramore at the time. But now, 14 years later, Bettencourt has finally broken his silence to address rumors of a Rihanna heavy metal album.
While a heavy metal album may not be in the cards for Rihanna, her openness to exploring different genres and styles is something that should be celebrated. It’s not easy for an artist to move outside of their comfort zone and try something new, but Rihanna has never been one to shy away from a challenge.
Furthermore, the fact that there was so much buzz surrounding the supposed metal album speaks to the enduring popularity and influence of heavy metal music. Despite being a genre that is often maligned and misunderstood, metal continues to have a dedicated fan base and has inspired countless artists across a wide range of genres.
While the news about Rihanna’s metal album may have turned out to be false, it’s still worth considering the possibilities of an artist branching out into different genres. Rihanna’s willingness to experiment and push boundaries is something that should be celebrated, and the enduring popularity of heavy metal is a testament to the genre’s enduring influence. For the time being, little is known about Rihanna’s new album. Also, last Thursday, Rihanna received a standing ovation for her performance of the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever song ‘Lift Me Up’ at the Academy Awards 2023.
