System of a Down Frontman Will Release Piano Concerto
From time to time, we see musicians do solo works that are slightly different from what they do with their bands. A couple of days ago Slipknot’s Clown released his solo works that have a very different sound than his Slipknot pieces. But today, we have a completely different style of musical work from a heavy metal musician. System of A Down frontman and vocalist Serj Tankian revealed that he is going to release a “piano concerto” soon.
Serj Tankian is mostly known for his work at the band System of a Down. He is the lead vocalist, primary lyricist, keyboardist, and occasional rhythm guitarist for System of a Down. Throughout his career with SOAD, Tankian released 5 albums with the band and besides them, he also released 5 solo albums. Now, he is about to release another solo project. But this time it is not rock or heavy metal. This new project by System of a Down frontman is going to be a piano concerto. Serj Tankian announced that upcoming project and said these words on it:
“Incredibly excited to share this unique work of music I created during the Covid lockdown. I challenged myself to collate numerous distinct musical ideas into one long 24 minute modern piano concerto. Here’s a small teaser. Full composition and video will be released June 18.”
With these words, Tankian also shared a short teaser to show fans what to expect.

It’s interesting to create relationships from things that don’t normally co-relate
As he shared in his announcement, he is going to release this concerto on June 18. Earlier this year, System of a Down frontman Tankian talked about this project with this words:
“Creatively, I’ve always had this Dada-esque kind of vibe, a Zappa-y kind of vibe where even the 24-minute modern piano concerto was basically having different pieces of music marry each other that didn’t have a preexisting relationship and making it work. I find that really interesting in every aspect: lyrically, musically, because a lot of music has already been done. What did John Lennon say? All the songs and chords have already been written. It’s interesting to create relationships from things that don’t normally co-relate.”
We were seeing musicians working on different genres and sounds. With the Covid-19 lockdowns, they went even far with that solo project and present us with plenty of different works. His last release before that was an EP called “Elasticity”, which came out this March and received good critics.
