The 10 Longest Metal Albums

Seeing long albums and songs is not surprising for metal fans. Compared to other genres in the music industry, metal albums and songs can be a lot longer. This duration of album times is also increased when the CDs become popular. Ever since, we are seeing albums longer than expected, longer than average. But today, we are going to talk about the extreme ones. The top 10 longest metal album. 

But the term “longest” doesn’t mean the album contains so many songs. Because it’s not always the case. For some bands and some albums, yes, they’ve used more and more songs to get to that extremely long album duration. But for some bands and albums, they only used a couple of songs and still managed to get their place in this list.  Before going any further, here are the top 10 longest metal albums from short to long.

10- Funerals From The Astral Sphere – Midnight Odyssey

Even if it’s the shortest album on our list, this is definitely a long one. We can say it has an average amount of songs with 16 in it and the run time is  2 hours, 4 minutes, and 48 seconds. The release date for the album was August 29, 2011.

9- III: So Long Suckers – Reverend Bizarre

With the number 9, we are dropping down to 7 songs in an album. Being released on August 8, 2007, this Reverend Bizarre album is 2 hours, 7 minutes, and 25 seconds longs.

8- Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness – Smashing Pumpkins

And we are increasing the number of songs on the album once again. This Smashing Pumpkins album has 30 songs in it, released on 1995, October 24, and the original vinyl pressing length is 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 6 seconds.

7- Blood Geometry – Elysian Blaze

We have a 2021 album on our list. The release date for the album is June 13 2021 and has only 8 songs in it. For the length, it is 2 hours, 9 minutes, and 43 seconds.

6- The Astonishing – Dream Theater

Dream Theater is also on this list with an album longer than 130 minutes. This 34 song-length album has been released on January 26 2016 and is 2 hours, 10 minutes, and 23 seconds long.

5- Soundtracks for the Blind – Swans

With the number 5, we are up to more than 140 minutes. This October 22 1996 album is 2 hours, 21 minutes, and 37 seconds long. The number of songs in the album is 26.

4- Shards of Silver Fade – Midnight Odyssey

This other Midnight Odyssey album in our list is 2 hours 22 minutes and 38 seconds in total and only contains 8 songs. This album was released on 2015, June 8.

3 – Sandinista! – The Clash

In number 3, we have the complete opposite of number 4. Released on December 12, 1980, this album is 2 hours and 24 minutes 9 seconds long and contains 36 songs. This is almost 5 times more than number 10.

2 – Imperator – Dødsengel

Number 2 is coming from Norway. This 2012 album was released on April 30 and has 22 songs in it. The total run time for the Imperator album is 2 hours, 30 minutes, and 39 seconds.  And with it, we’ve passed the 2 hours and 30 minutes length.

1- Songs From the North I, II & III – Swallow the Sun

And the top of the list. With 21 songs and  2 hours, 33 minutes, and 45 seconds of length. Swallow the Sun takes their place in the list. This album is released on November 13, 2015
