The 12 Best Heavy Metal Rap Collaborations of All Time
Rap and heavy metal are two genres that work surprisingly well together. While many people might not have a taste for either of these genres, it still doesn’t stop artists from creating killer hit songs with them. If you’re looking for great Metal Bands and Rap mashups, you’re at the right place!
Famous Collaborations Between Rap and Heavy Metal
Rap combined with heavy metal bands are some of the most unexpected collaborations in the music industry. That being said, they do tend to produce some bangers. Here are our top favorite rap and heavy metal collaborations below!
1. Anthrax feat. Public Enemy – “Bring The Noise”
Everyone in the heavy metal and rap community will agree that the number one song on this list has to be Bring The Noise by Anthrax featuring Public Enemy. In fact, this very song started the trend of heavy metal artists collaborating with rappers to create bangers.
When this track dropped in 1991, both Anthrax and Public Enemy celebrated by going on tour together to promote the single even further. Although the track has a late-’80s feel, it is timeless in a way and is still listened to by both the heavy metal and rap community worldwide.
This collaboration was extra special because both Anthrax and Public Enemy were at the top of their respective genres at the time. So, the fact that they decided to collaborate meant that they would each be bringing a whole lot to the table in terms of creativity and technical flair.
2. Onyx feat. Biohazard – “Judgement Night”
Although this was a close contender for the number one spot over Anthrax Public Enemy, we knew Bring the Noise deserved it for being a classic. That being said, Judgement Night is by far the biggest heavy metal and rap collaboration. It features several different artists from the two genres.
The soundtrack was produced for the Judgement Night film, released in 1993. While our favorite collaboration from this soundtrack was certainly Onyx featuring Biohazard, there were quite a few other artists in the soundtrack as well, such as Slayer, Faith No More, and Queens.
There is no doubt that creating such a trailblazing soundtrack that features several top artists from the two genres was no joke. While it certainly took quite a bit of effort, the artists are now enjoying the fruits of their labor by seeing the soundtrack as one of the top in the two genres.
3. Korn feat. Ice Cube – “Children of the Korn”
If you know Korn and their music, you know it’s either a hit or a miss. Within a single album, Korn can have tracks that are total flops and make it to the worst songs list, but they can also have tracks that skyrocket to the top of the charts worldwide. There’s nothing in-between.
In fact, within the album Follow the Leader, Korn already has a cringe track that he created with Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst. The track All in the Family sounds like it was made drunk, and Jonathan Davis even calls it the worst Korn song ever, and we couldn’t agree more.
That being said, the same album created the killer song Children of the Korn, which we believe is probably the best Korn song ever to bless our existence. This bass-thumper that perfectly lends the west-coast rap production with Korn’s nu-metal bounce is one for the hall of fame.
4. System of a Down feat. Wu-Tang Clan – Shame
Shame by System of a Down featuring Wu-Tang Clan was not the collaboration we expected, but it certainly is the collaboration we deserve. The two iconic groups of their own genres came together to produce a banger that would forever live in the hearts of the fans.
There is something special about hearing the blend of vocals by System of a Down’s Serj Tankian and Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA. Who would’ve thought that these two entirely different groups would become two peas in a pod? The song has become legendary worldwide.
We have to disclaim that the track Shame by Wu-Tang Clan is entirely different from the track Shame on a N*gga by Wu-Tang Clan. While that song is a banger in itself, it still doesn’t compare to this masterpiece that they were able to create with System of a Down.
Wu-Tang’s beats perfectly mesh with System’s instrumental work, and the two created a nu-metal track still played by music stations. If this song floats your boat, you might want to also check out the other songs from the same album, Loud Rocks by System.
5. Faith No More feat. Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E. – “Another Body Murdered”
Earlier on this list, we featured the soundtrack Judgement Night by Onyx featuring Biohazard for the 1993 movie of the same name. Another Body Murdered by Faith No More featuring Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E was also produced for the same movie, along with several other tracks as well.
The collaboration of all these heavy metal groups with rappers resulted in a soundtrack that sent the movie to the top of the blockbuster list. We could make an entire list of just the tracks featured in the Judgement Night movie because that’s how many crazy ones there are.
On Faith No More’s own tracks, Mike Patton has to focus on the lyrics and vocals, which means he doesn’t get to explore much out of that realm. However, this collaboration meant that Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E would have to worry about the lyrics, which gave Patton the freedom to go crazy.
6. Six Feet Under feat. Ice-T – “One Bullet Left”
If you’re a fan of heavy metal music, you’re probably familiar with Ice-T. Regarding collaboration body counts, Ice-T is at the top of the food chain. In fact, he has probably collaborated with more artists than anyone else from the heavy metal music genre.
Chris Barnes from Six Feet Under is no stranger to being under the spotlight either. In fact, the boyband member was boycotted from several parts of the globe after his explicit lyrics from Cannibal Corpse went public. But that didn’t stop him from continuing to sing it publicly.
Considering Barnes’ history with explicit lyrics and deadly thrills, it was no surprise that he finally decided to team up with someone of his level, Ice-T. The two made a perfect team. Ice-T sang seamlessly through Barnes’ bone-chilling growls, making the song skyrocket in the charts.
7. Stray From The Path feat. Vinnie Paz – The House Always Wins
You don’t even need to hear The House Always Wins to know that a collaboration between Stray From The Path and Vinnie Paz is going to be fire. These two artists were at the top of the charts in their respective genres at the time, and the two gained an immense fan following too.
Stray From The Path is easily one of the deadliest artists in heavy metal at the moment, while Vinnie Paz is among the most ferocious-sounding rappers walking this very earth today. Knowing Paz is also a member of the wild and crazy Jedi Mind Tricks boosts his status further.
Keeping all that in mind, The House Always Wins was a soul-crushing banger thanks to the hardcore instrumental work and the raw and raspy vocals. Vinnie Paz and Stray From The Path’s Andrew Dijorio were the top performers on this track.
8. Limp Bizkit feat. Lil Wayne – “Ready to Go”
Not long ago, Limp Bizkit was signed to the Cash Money label, the same company that Lil Wayne is signed to as well. As a result, it was only a matter of time before the two would cross paths and would end up collaborating on a banger. And they ended up doing exactly that and much more.
Ready to Go by Limp Bizkit featuring Lil Wayne was released in 2013, back when Lil Wayne was just starting out and before he gained the popularity he has now. Nonetheless, the song still ended up becoming a firecracker, despite either artist not being too popular at the time.
The song will get you bouncing off the walls and sitting on the edge of your seat at the same time. Limp Bizkit was an absolute savage the entire track, and Lil Wayne was no different either. Fred Durst showed some solid instrumentation work, and Lil Wayne delivered killer vocals.
9. Post Malone feat. Ozzy Osbourne & Travis Scott – “Take What You Want”
As one of the most famous artists of today, Post Malone and Travis Scott proved to be quite the metalheads themselves as they collaborated with Ozzy Osbourne to release Take What You Want. Combined with all their fan followings, this song went off the charts immediately.
Some may argue that Ozzy Osbourne’s appearance in the song was too brief for it to be put in the heavy metal genre. However, despite only appearing briefly, he provided a catchy hook and elevated the entire song to an emotional level that wouldn’t have been possible without him.
It’s a shame that Ozzy Osbourne doesn’t collaborate much anymore. Seeing how well he blended with both Post Malone and Travis Scott, there is no doubt that any artist would love to have him make an appearance. We hope to see him do more cameos with other rappers soon.
10. Tech N9ne feat. Corey Taylor – “Wither”
If two people have identical vocals and energies, it’s Tech N9ne and Slipknot’s Corey Taylor. The two have the same vocal range and the exact same performance style, which is why it was only a matter of time before they ended up collaborating together on Wither.
Wither highlighted each artist’s vocal techniques, from how they serenade the audience to how they blow the roof off the theatres. If they collaborated more often, they would certainly be able to use each other’s vocals in the best way possible to create a masterpiece.
Although both Tech N9ne and Corey Taylor aren’t exactly the most popular in their respective genres, this collaboration made them top the charts and gain the respect of both artists and fans worldwide. While they have still have a long way to go, they’re definitely on the right path.
11. Korn feat. Nas – “Play Me”
It shouldn’t be surprising that this is the second Korn song on this list. As we’ve mentioned before, Korn either creates complete flops or total bangers. And, this song “Play Me” featuring Nas is one of those bangers that happen to make its way to the top of the food chain as well.
On the 2003 album Take a Look in the Mirror, Korn invited Nas to collaborate on Play Me. There are a couple of things that make this song special. The first is how Jonathan Davis gets the freedom to shine on this song. The second is the mesmerizing bars and rhythms by Nas.
Who would’ve thought that Korn’s instrumental work and Nas’ rhythms would come together to create a killer that would skyrocket off the charts. They created an incredible blend of adrenaline, which isn’t surprising considering how well Nas’ vocals work with nu-metal.
12. Linkin Park feat. Jay-Z – “Numb/Encore”
Last but not least, we had to include Numb/Encore by Linkin Park featuring Jay-Z. This song was released in the early 2000s, back when Jay-Z had yet to gain the fan following he has now. That being said, Linkin Park was at the top of the list in his genre, making constant bangers.
Despite the two never collaborating before, “Numb/Encore” created one of the most iconic Rap Metal collaborations at the time. The entire mashup album was nothing short of extraordinary. This album epitomizes heavy metal meets rap, and it couldn’t get any better.
Before this banger was created, who would’ve thought that Jay-Z’s vocals and energy would merge seamlessly with the nu-metal mood of Linkin Park? This collaboration was one of the most unique at the time. That being said, this uniqueness made it top the charts.
