Deftones Finally Share New Album Release Date in 2024
Deftones finally shares a new album release date in the Spring or Summer of 2024. This article collected the latest interviews and details about Deftones‘ upcoming tenth studio album.
After, the Deftones‘ latest studio album, Ohms, was released in 2020. But it appears the band is already working on their next album. On the Gnostic Academy podcast YouTube channel, guitarist Stephen Carpenter said that the band is working on a new album with producer Nick Raskulinecz, with a release date 2024.
“Ohms” is the ninth album released by American alternative metal band Deftones via Reprise Records on September 20, 2020. Terry Date wrote the album, marking their first collaboration since the release of Eros and their final album with bassist Sergio Vega, who left the band at the beginning of 2021.
Deftones also announced they will return to their Dia De Los Deftones event this year. Turnstile, Phantogram, Freddie Gibbs, Audrey, Destroy Boys, Provoker, and Cold Gawd will perform at the event on November 5 in San Diego, CA.
During this interview, Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter talked about the specific time for the new Deftones album:
When is the release date of Deftones’ new album?
“Just in the last couple of months, really – two or three months; well, maybe a little longer now, really; February is when we started … to work on new material for a new record. It’s going good now. It was a little slow at first, but it always is; dragging our feet ain’t nothing new. But we’ve got stuff up and going now, and we’re on a good little momentum at the moment. And we hope to have it all done and out by next spring or summer [2024]. There’s nothing official – no official date yet – but that’s our goal.
Stephen Carpenter also talked about how Deftones produce their song:
It’s a combination of things. Most often, everything stems from us just jamming out some ideas, messing around, and someone comes up with something that maybe someone else or everyone else likes. And then we kind of just focus in on that for a little bit.
Who is the new person and it’s going to affect good on Deftones?
That’s what Nick’s great at doing, too. Where we could just sit and jam aimlessly and plow through idea after idea without even stopping to recognize them, he’s great at saying, ‘Hey, that idea is really cool. Let’s try to work on that for a minute. And then that other idea might be really cool with that one. Let’s try putting them together,’ and stuff like that. So that’s what’s awesome about him. He’s like an unofficial band member at that point and good at giving us direction where we don’t normally do that well on our own. I mean, we do it, but it’s a much slower process on our own.”
Deftones‘ new album will be the band’s first without bassist Sergio Vega, who performed on the previous four albums until leaving the band in 2021. Deftones live fill-in Fred Sablan, although the band has never confirmed a formal successor for Vega.
In addition, Deftones frontman Chino Moreno working on another project ††† (Crosses). Also, the new album called God Bless, I Love U, Delete will be released on October 13th, 2023.
