Gibson CEO Talks Which Guitars Are Best For TOOL’s Adam Jones
TOOL‘s famous guitarist Adam Jones always pushing the limits to be the best guitarist in the world. Gibson‘s CEO discusses which guitars Adam Jones likes best and which type of music Jones wants to record and play.
Adam Jones of TOOL and his Gibson Custom Silverburst are one of the most famous and easily recognizable musician and Les Paul pairings. The latest Adam Jones 1979 Les Paul Custom in Antique Silverburst is a stunning and exact Custom Shop recreation of Jones’s favorite electric guitar—the 1979 Silverburst that we hear on every TOOL album and see at every TOOL show—right down to the pickups, the finish, the wood, and even the volume pots.
Adam Jones was added to the interview for his custom Gibson guitars:
“When I think of art, I see both the visual and the aural as equally important, with one bolstering the other. Mark’s work is instantly recognizable, uniquely his own. While he started in fine art, he has expanded into music and theatrical productions. What a perfect partner to kick off this series with.”
Adam Jones‘ guitars were made in 1979, which was an odd year for the company and he loves to play and record with his Gibson guitars.
Cesar Gueikian says the new Silverburst models Gibson made for Adam Jones are the heaviest. This is because the guitarist for TOOL is sure that it changes the way his tone sounds. This was discussed when the CEO of Gibson went on Dean Delray’s show. Cesar Gueikian was asked what it was like to work with these famous people.
During the interview with Dean Delray‘s podcast program, Gibson‘s CEO Cesar Gueikian reveals what’s special about Gibson Les Paul Silverburst. And, he shares which guitars are best and which type of music TOOL‘s Adam Jones wants to record and play:
“That’s probably the best question you could have asked me. It is different. That’s the beautiful thing about working with all of them is to understand what they are looking for and spend time with them to get it to the point where we can understand exactly what they are after so that we can go get it. As opposed to us asking them to play what we’re making.
Take Adam Jones, for example. He has a very unique sound. First and foremost, he’s looking for the sound. Second, he wants the heaviest guitars that we can possibly or humanly make. And so we have to source the heaviest maple and the heaviest mahogany that we can find around the world. We go scouting to find the heaviest woods that we can find for him. And that’s because he’s used to playing those ’79 Silverbursts.”
He also added what effect this build has on TOOL’s guitar tone and music:
“And he [Adam Jones] truly believes that it has an effect. Does affect sound. So, in his mind, the weight, the finish — the metallic finish — and then the way the guitar is built and the electronics, the profile of the neck, all the specs that make the guitar right in his hands, is what we’re always chasing. And we’ve got a good formula with him having developed a couple of years ago the first ’79 Silverburst.
And then from there, everything we’ve done with the Adam Jones [TOOL] collection is always preserving that patent DNA of what he’s looking for.
