Tool’s Maynard James Keenan Interview on New Projects
Tool’s Maynard James Keenan speaks about the most recent projects in his wine adventure, an upcoming Puscifer concert movie, and performing live. Maynard will also celebrate his 60th birthday next year, touring with A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, and Primus in 2024.
Maynard’s Thoughts on His Latest Projects and Upcoming Tour
A new interview with Maynard James Keenan on Loudwire Nights takes place at a national rock radio show hosted by Chuck Armstrong that airs Monday through Friday, 7 PM-Midnight on more than 30 stations across America.
Who is Chuck Armstrong?
Chuck began his 17-year career in radio and media after becoming enamored with The Wildcat 91.9, his college radio station, and then devouring whatever he could lay his ears on. His professional on-air career began in Junction City, Kansas’s Power Hits 97.5, where he eventually filled in for the morning show on KMAJ 1440 in Topeka.
He began by producing weekend shows on Kansas City’s KCMO Talk Radio and eventually found himself in charge of Entercom’s eight radio stations’ digital presences in the city. He was living the ideal as a daily on-air jock for 98.9 The Rock while he was employed at Entercom, hosting a chat show on KMBZ on the weekends.
Chuck Armstrong has been honored to interview numerous musicians for various magazines and sources for the past fifteen years. Rob Halford, Chris Robinson, Neal Casal, Steve Earle, Patterson Hood, Hurray For the Riff Raff, Shakey Graves, OK Go, Metal Maria Ferrero, Christopher Paul Stelling, John Hiatt, Sam Outlaw, Jason Isbell, Kirk Hammett, Leslie Jordan, and more have all been interviewed by him.
Let’s get into Maynard’s interview with Chuck Amstrong and his new projects and upcoming tour:
“It’s a huge endeavor and very daunting. Anything that large, there’s a lot to be ironed out, and we’ll continue to iron out, but it’s quite a relief to get it open.
The facility is the huge aspect of it. The actual production, when you look at the average production numbers for California or international wines, we’re still on the low end.
We’re considered a boutique winery. Once people get over the novelty aspect of it being from a musician and actually taste the wine – I think it’s taken awhile. But that’s the bigger hurdle that we’ve managed to navigate. We’re making serious wines that are just delicious and ageable.”

Maynard’s thoughts on Puscifer’s upcoming movie:
“If fans saw the first leg, we definitely adjusted some things as far as the stage setup goes – for people who haven’t seen the show at all, it’s very Puscifer. It’s multi-media, great songs, great visuals. It’s just a fun concert.
We sharpened the knife over the course of a year of touring. That recording was about 80 percent of the way through all the days we were going to do, so we really had a chance to dial some things in, get the timing down with the songs, with the jokes … I think we nailed it.”
And, Maynard praises his bandmates all of his projects:
“I never mention anything until we actually have it in our hands because every time I say it out loud, it runs farther away, like Groundhog Day.
To get people wound up and excited about something that doesn’t exist, I think it’s irresponsible. It’s very random. Danny [Carey] just reached out. I said, ‘So you haven’t met this guy before?’ He said, ‘No.’ Okay. And go.”
Maynard also answered this question: Why does Puscifer love offering fans remixes of their songs and albums?
“Taking a track and handing it to another artist for you to see your songs through their eyes, that’s really inspiration.”
